Our Aims
‘Friends of St. Mary’s Buckland’ was launched in August 2012 at the Flower Festival, with the purpose of raising funds to maintain and protect our church building through a series of community events.
St. Mary’s is recognised by many as a “gem”. The church marks the character of our village as an important focal point at the centre of Buckland, and it is not only the congregation of the church that value it, but also many others who live in the village, many who have fond memories of the church through marriages, births and memorial services, and those who pass through and find some spiritual connection with our church.
The vital work of the “Friends” will be to organise fund raising events to help maintain the fabric and structure of St. Mary’s and the churchyard, to ensure that we can discharge our responsibilities to future generations as “custodians” of this part of Buckland’s historic legacy.
Over 50 Friends have signed up already (outside of the regular congregation) – and we have a campaign to write to all households in the village in Spring 2013, to extend our reach.
